Letters and Responses to Public Comments and Standards

About Letters and Responses to Public Comments and Standards

CSTE uses letters and responses to public comments to document or communicate actions or express concerns to an external individual, agency, or organization. This typically takes the form of CSTE's formal responses to federal proposed rulemaking. CSTE members are also active participants in the standards development space; we comment on the U.S. Core Data for Interoperability (USCDI), USCDI+ for Public Health, HL7, and others.

Members should share any identified comment opportunities with CSTE staff (letters@cste.org). Once CSTE staff or members identify relevant opportunities (that can also be shared by partners or posted on the Federal Register), opportunities are evaluated by staff for relevance, impact, and bandwidth, then the full CSTE membership may engage and participate to help craft and refine CSTE's official response.

How Federal Policies are Made

See below video for an overview of the rulemaking process, or the process used by government agencies of the federal government to develop and issue rules (also referred to as “regulations").
